The time has come to put a close on this year’s Kinetix Challenge...for some of us, we leave the challenge with our first taste of coworker-competition and harmless trash-talking (No matter the outcome, Marcie should win a medal for best trash talker). For others it was just another piece of the Kinetix revolution. Despite the different paths we took to get here, we did exactly that: took paths to get here. And that alone is something that should be celebrated.
8 weeks ago our names were pulled out of a hat (with great enthusiasm, I might add) and posted on a white board. There it was, the first glimpse at [Team] We Are Kinetix.
Jamie, Cynthia, Ryan, Lisa and Tori.
As soon as our group met, we realized we all had something that set us apart from the rest. We represented Kinetix from the ground up. Literally! From shipping and handling to creator of the company, we are Kinetix. We were given an amazing opportunity and challenge to come together as separate branches of the company and we leave this challenge having gained an incredible bond and understanding of not only each other, but of Kinetix itself.
As I’m sure most of you remember, there was an incident towards the beginning of the challenge: the infamous Cupcake-meets-puddle incident. As a team, we realized that this was a great analogy for what we went through during this challenge. For those of you who don’t remember, the moral of that story was that even the universe was pulling for Tori to succeed in her challenge, even if that meant her slipping and throwing a devilish cupcake into a puddle. We took this incident and realized that we are each pulling for each other to throw our cupcakes into puddles, whether those cupcakes are actual baked goods or other personal obstacles we were striving to overcome.
One of the most important aspects of being successful in the Kinetix program is being able to learn from your experience. As a team, we learned that having a lunch club is a great way to hold yourself accountable for hitting at least one of those targets every day. What we didn’t realize is that having a lunch club is a great way to have a life-changing conversation as well. Between casual conversation of what everyone was doing that weekend or how life was going, there was a few serious moments of “...help.” Whether it was a conversation, setting aside time to meal plan or even a field trip to Subway to get a K-balanced sandwich, a solution was always found and that cry for help was answered.
It’s important to point out that the Kinetix Challenge is a very personal experience. To be able to share that with a group of people, nonetheless coworkers, is something that asks a lot from you. It begs the question, “Are you willing to get and stay in the best shape of your life...in front of other people?”. For some of us, that was the hardest part. Being able to take on that challenge and take it to the next level. And this is what we found:
The success doesn’t lie within the numbers. The success lies within you.
When it comes down to it, the only way to truly judge the success of one’s challenge is to look at the reactions and feelings of the challenger as soon as those 8 weeks are over. Looking at final BCA’s and seeing faces full of genuine happiness is something that will never be able to be found in the numbers on the paper. The only way to create that is from within, and that is what this team did. Despite the goals we set out with, we accomplished something great... We came together as a team, turned our Cupcakes into K-Counts, and we succeeded.
As a team, we are smarter.
As a team, we are stronger.
As a team, We Are Kinetix.
