Fat, is it your friend or foe? If you are staying K- Balanced then you know that it is definitely your friend.
Unfortunately for most people who are trying to get lean or just lose weight fat turns into a “bad” or “forbidden” food in an instant. They avoid it completely for a while only to find themselves face down in a tub of ice cream or a bag of donuts. Not a great compromise.
With Kinetix you know there are no bad foods or forbidden foods- did someone just say Free Target? That being said it is important to know how to make the best choices possible when choosing a nutrient dense food like fat. Remember, unlike carbohydrates and proteins, fats contain 9 calories per gram. A little goes a long way.
In effort to help your journey towards the best you, I have put together a list of the most healthful fats to include on your K- Balanced nutrition for this year and every year.
Before you choose which ones to eat, a few facts about fat you want to know about.
There are two kinds of fats to be familiar with:
1. Saturated fats: found in animal products like butter, cheese, meats and plant oils like coconut and palm oil.
2. Unsaturated fats: AKA mono and polyunsaturated fats from avocado, olive, canola, sunflower, and safflower oils, as well as flax seeds, walnuts and cold water fish like salmon, tuna, mackerel, and halibut.
You want to choose unsaturated fats as often as possible when putting your K- Balanced meals and snacks together. Not only are they tasty and easy to cook with, but they have a powerful effect on increasing your good (HDL) cholesterol while lowering your bad (LDL) cholesterol. Diets that include moderate amounts of mono and polyunsaturated fats have been shown to lower your risk for heart disease.
You want to limit the amount of saturated fat in your nutrition. Saturated fats are proven to increase bad (LDL) cholesterol that contributes to your risk for developing heart disease.
Since all Kinetix meals and snacks are low in fat the only choice left for you to make is choosing the healthiest fat you can to make your meal complete and K- Balanced.
Remember, if you are switching to more unsaturated fat in your diet, you can easily substitute any unsaturated oil for butter in your cooking. They have very different effects on your body, but at the end of the day they are still caloric equivalents.
Some of my favorite recipes that include these healthful unsaturated fats are:
K3 Greek Salad with Tuna
K3 Veggie Tacos
K4 Chicken Mandarin Salad
K4 Chicken Souvlaki with Fennel Tzatziki
K4 Chicken Long Rice
K5 Spiced-Salmon with Yogurt Sauce and Pita Bread
