Marcie
I’m a very busy mom, wife, dog walker, house cleaner, school lunch lady, teacher, cook, Kinetix team member and coach—
If I wanted to be serious about my goals, especially after I purposefully binged to add 5lbs of fat so I had more to lose in the challenge, I simply had to be perfect!! I generally eat healthy and workout several times per week, so I didn’t think this would be that much of a challenge…..
Plan A: Routine
· Wake up at 4am (YUCK, I KNOW) and walk my dogs in my PJs and rain jacket
· 4:40am-Wake up my husband, start making breakfast
· 5:00 Eat breakfast and get dressed while husband gets my lunch in my lunch bag.
· 5:20am- leave note for the kids with bowls, plates and a message of what to make for breakfast
· 5:25-5:30am leave for the max train
· 6am At Regence for morning office hours J
· 7:50am- call the kids and tell them to have a good day at school
· 8:50am – snack
· 10:30am-11am- Lunch
· 11:10am – Workout with Brandon Emerson
· 1:30pm- snack
· 3:00pm-go home
· 3:30pm- snack with Kids, sweep clean counters, start laundry
· 4:15pm- walk/jog the dogs w/ kids while they ride their bikes or walk/jog with me
· 4:45pm- change laundry over, do laundry, start dinner, help kids with homework, play games with Brendin while cooking dinner- up and down the stairs, around the house…AHHHH!!!!
· 6:30pm- Sit down and eat dinner
· 7:00pm- kids upstairs in the shower while I clean up dinner and start making their lunches for the next day (labeling things “snack1”, “lunch”, “snack 2”….RRRRR) Throw tennis ball to the dogs all the while and yell to the kids “Stop fighting—Drop it you two!”
· 7:30/45pm- make my lunch with my husband- (yes this is our time together…haha)
· 8:00pm- look through the mail- pay bills (if needed)
· 8:30pm- make sure kids clothes are set out for the next day, back packs downstairs, alarms set, tuck the kids into bed- story and songs
· 8:45pm- I shower
· 9:00pm- set out clothes
· 9:30pm- bed
Perfect, right? WRONG!!!!! WRONG!!!!! That is my perfect schedule. What about the days Brandon and I have meetings and can’t meet up? Do I fall off the bandwagon? What about when my kids don’t want to do outside with me to do MY workout? Do I force them? What if my husband works late, and he can’t help me make my food? What if……….?
Plan B: Routine SAME AS A, EXCEPT…..
· 11:10am – No Workout call Dennis let him know that he needs to give the dogs their second walk or I expect the kids to play with the dogs for 30minutes (fetch etc…yes, you can ask for help—THAT’S SUPPORT!!!)
· 3:30pm- GO TO THE GYM
· 7:30/45pm- DECIDE TO BUY LUNCH OUT USING RESTAURANT GUIDE
·
Plan C: Routine SAME AS A, EXCEPT – No Workout…that’s okay, I ate balanced and am still healthy J
· 11:10am – WORK (Busy Busy is K-LAND)
· 3:30pm- GO HOME
· 7:30/45pm- LEFT OVERS FOR LUNCH THE NEXT DAY- PACK’n IT!
On Saturdays I plan what I want for the next week. I do a quick inventory check and I head to the store. On Sunday my husband and I prepare as much as we can ahead of time so that between 4:45pm and 6:30pm, when the kids need my most, I don’t have to MAN THE KITCHEN, because I have prepared.
I lost the fat….but I certainly WASN’T PERFECT!!! AS YOU CAN SEE I HAD 3 VERY DIFFERENT PLANS!
My plans had to have some flexibility- and they do! My life isn’t perfect and my fitness routine isn’t going to be either. My supportive team has let me know it’s normal to be this busy and that as long as I can get in a quick 30 minutes of exercise I’m okay, and if I miss it, not to worry, as life DOES go on. I assured me I would still hit my goals. But, what I realized was with this type of flexibility I will stay healthy for the rest of my life- THAT’s My REAL GOAL! I can skip a workout if necessary, it’s not bad…

It was time for a serious look inward for me, and this Internal Challenge couldn’t have come sooner. The fact that the challenge was centered around the ideas of support and community was the main reason I participated BECAUSE I had become a BIG slacker with the workouts. Sadly, I found myself floundering for the previous 4 months: my Co-worker and former Kinetix Marketing Coordinator Extraordinaire was all of a sudden gone. I honestly thought it wouldn’t be a problem for me at all. I thought, “No Big deal! You’ve always worked out alone before, so I shouldn’t have any problem with going back to that routine.” How wrong I was… Needless to say, my pant size suffered. I’m very happy to tell you though that this challenge proved to me that I *REALLY* do need the accountability of others to help with ANY change that I decide to take on. My teammates as well as myself were super gung-ho and helpful in those first few weeks. We all stated exactly what we needed to have asked of us to make sure we were on track, and for a while that worked. The support really did help: we had team phone call check-in’s every couple of weeks; seeing each other in person to say “when are you doing your workout”; emails and community site notes about how we can help each other… they were all very helpful! At the end of the day , I feel invigorated and excited that someone cares about what I do. As much as I love helping and coaching others, I’m not very good at asking for help sometimes. So the auto-check in from ALL OF MY TEAMMATES was a HUGE contributing factor in my success to the last eight weeks! Thank you TEAM FITST PUMP!!!!
Goals: Pack the snacks and 6 workouts a week –keepin’ it simple works for me!
My Biggest Obstacle: Truly committing to GO TO THE GYM! Even when asked (Coach James) on the day of, I would hem and haw about a time because “I’ve just got so many things on my plate”… I’m NO different than any other person out there!
My Results: Down Three pounds of fat, Up 2.5 Pounds of lean!
Jeff
Goals: Being ok with doing Basic because I prefer the Performance workout more, but my back cannot sustain the extra cardio daily; staying consistent with the exercises! And to journal what I eat.
My challenge was letting go of my old habits of not journaling and not staying disciplined with the program. I didn’t want to come out from behind myself and witness how I was living. I made good food choices, but I never took it to the next level. My biggest challenge was ‘Me’ getting in my own way of success.
how did the team support you,
My team supported me by helping me realize I could be better at journaling and staying K-Balanced that I should take it to the next level.
how did that support or lack of help or detract you;
Their support helped me become a better Coach because now I can understand what we are asking our clients to go through. They challenged and encouraged me to meet my K-Counts and to see how to better those counts each week.
how did that support make you feel.
It made me realize that by adjusting just a few things that I can really achieve my full potential.
What did you learn by doing this challenge?
I learned many things! I have never really followed the Kinetix program details until this point. I normally ate 6 x’s a day, and I exercise, so I know the value. But to really follow the program, really helped me capture what a client experiences. I want to be a person who leads by example. In order to do that, I had to take several steps back and see what I was neglecting myself. I even travelled to Las Vegas while we were on this challenge, and I really had no idea how disciplined you have to be to stay on track. It helps me realize that I can practice what I preach, and to be an example to many of why we should eat better and exercise. I now know and can relate to my client experiences more than ever because I have had those nights where nothing was planned in advance, and I am up really late at night trying to make this work. I know appreciate what 19/2/6 really means, and I now know what it can do for me!

My primary goal was to lose as much fat and gain as much muscle as I could before my baby was born. I put on a lot of “sympathy” weight and it needed to go! My biggest challenge occurred after my son Caleb was born, waking up every three hours without a lot of time to prepare my meals was a challenge, in addition we were around a lot of family who want to support us, which often times came in the form of feeding us less than balanced meals. It was also hard to carve out time to workout. I can now relate better to my clients who have children.
Team FistPump was a big support, we had meetings to establish our goals and shared how we could best be supported. We had weekly check-ins to follow-up and see how everyone was tracking. It was a great experience because we all had different goals and were motivated in very different ways. For example I am very competitive but Sibyl isn’t at all, if I pushed her too hard she would have had as much fun or been as successful.
The support was a huge help, just knowing my teammates were going to follow-up with me helped to add that extra bit of accountability. I also liked being in a team because I got to interact more with people who I normally wouldn’t. For example I really feel like I got to know Coach Sibyl much more than I did before and that is a huge win, she is a great Coach and great person, I am lucky to work with her. The support made me feel great! I don’t think I would have had as much fun had this been an individual Challenge. It also felt great to support and Coach my teammates. What did you learn by doing this challenge?
I learned some very valuable lessons:
1. I need to spend more time connecting with and learning more about my teammates at work. As I stated previously it was great spending more time with and getting to know Coach Sibyl more, she is a great person and Coach!
2. I learned how much of a challenge it can be to balance having a baby with eating healthy and exercising regularly. I wasn’t perfect but I did the best I could. Although it was much more of a challenge I am committed to living the Kinetix lifestyle to set a good example for Caleb. Life never gets any easier, as I get older and gather more responsibility I will have less and less time for myself, I need to get that much better and being more organized and proactive if I want to be successful in all areas of my life – if it is important to you, you’ll find a way to get it done.
3. I was reminded how rewarding it is to help a teammate achieve his or her goals and to build them up in a positive way.
My results: I lost 8lbs of fat and gained 4lbs of muscle

My primary personal goal of the Kinetix Challenge was to be completely honest and transparent with my nutrition. I had a three month lapse in my reality where I rationalized being optimal with Kinetix nutrition involved consuming free targets in between K-Balanced Meals and K-Balanced snacks. More so, I would defend my behaviors—if no one was seeing me eat a cookie, candy or chocolate—it was ok. As a result, I put 12lbs of fat on my body after the summer. Basically, I was not being present in life and not paying attention to how I was fueling my body. Personally, I like feeling the best I can be at every moment and I don’t like not being at my potential. I know and have personally experienced that following the program to the prescribed principles—I will lose fat.
As someone who knows that K-Balanced nutrition works, I was not being honest with myself that I was not doing the nutrition to my potential. For some reason, in my head, averaging 5 free targets a week would lead to fat loss. Apparently not…for my body, 5 free targets is the formula for fat gain. I really wanted to be honest with myself and team members with my nutrition and feel the freedom of not being judge by the worst critic—myself.
I think the biggest challenge for me was allowing myself to be helped by others. Being honest with yourself is a challenge when you don’t have people challenging your reality and keeping you accountable to your potential. With that said, I am a firm believer that no one succeeds by themselves. Along an individual’s journey of personal success, key people provided opportunities, support and feedback for an individual to succeed. For me, if I wanted to succeed in being transparent with my nutrition, I had to “man up” and get over myself to ask for help, support and accountability from others. The “internal committee” in my head would never call me out on my nutrition if I was free targeting—I needed a support committee outside of myself.
At first, I felt very vulnerable and “naked”--admitting that was not honest with my nutrition for the last few months. A slice of humble pie (K0) never tastes good. Nevertheless, I have to say being honest with yourself—is always a freeing experience. My teammates were great because they listened and offered no judgment. When I am NOT my best, I feel judgment from others…so it was great to test that fear and realize that judgment from teammates was not a reality. As I say to clients—You are your ultimate judge. That experience was a great reminder. My teammates were great. Here are my favorite memories:
· James--“Text Message: Did you clean out your pantry?”
· Sibyl –“What do you think of doing BCA before you go on Vacation?”
· Jeff—“What are you going to do with your Chocolate and Gummy Bears?”
· Marcie—“Text Message: Are you sticking to you plan?”
Results wise, I did great—who knew that 2 free targets a week would lead to fat loss?
BCA:
Start: 168 lbs—13.3% Fat—22.3 Fat Mass—145.7 Lean Mass
End: 162 lbs—8.6% Fat—13.9 Fat Mass—148.2 Lean Mass
