If you are one of many that are discovering you no longer digest dairy or gluten very well- this blog is for you. More and more people today are learning or being diagnosed with allergies and intolerances to two main food groups; gluten and dairy. I thought it would be beneficial to define what these food groups are and help you choose K- Balanced recipes that will allow you continued success with Kinetix. Don’t panic, it is way easier than you imagine.

What is gluten?
Gluten is the protein contained in grains from the wheat family. Its function is to provide products like bread with structure; it acts like a leavening agent. When wheat flour is made into dough this protein becomes elastic and traps gas bubbles released from yeast during baking.

If you have developed sensitivity, intolerance, or a diagnosable allergy to the protein in gluten it is important you follow an appropriate diet that alleviates symptoms and decreases inflammation in the intestines enabling your body to heal. In order to accomplish this you will need to completely avoid gluten containing grains and increase your consumption of gluten-free grains.

Grains that contain gluten:
Wheat, Barley, Spelt, Rye, Kamut, Oats, Triticale
Gluten-free grains:
Corn, Buckwheat, Millet, Quinoa, Brown rice, Wild rice, White rice, Amaranth

What is dairy?

Dairy is defined as any food that is produced from milk, more specifically cow’s milk. If you have intolerance, sensitivity, or an allergy to dairy then you will need to follow a diet that provides relief, eliminates symptoms, and allows your body to heal from the damage caused by inflammation.
Just as with gluten, in order to accomplish this you will need to avoid dairy and dairy containing products. These are foods made from cow’s milk such as cheese, yogurt, sour cream, cream cheese, buttermilk, butter, milk chocolate, whey, casein, cottage cheese, and ice cream.

Foods that are non-dairy containing foods, but are often confused as dairy are eggs and mayonnaise. Also sheep and goats may cohabitate with cow’s but are not considered dairy, so eating products made from these animals will not cause a reaction.
Luckily there are many dairy-free recipes available to you with Kinetix. Here is a list of meals that will appeal to a wide variety of tastes.

Perfect! I'll check it out this weekend and give you an update. By the way....I love feta cheese and have been using it alot more recently as an alternative to regular cheese. It's awesome in salads along with tomatoes and some olive oil.

Thanks Kathy! If you are looking for sheep or goats milk cheese, they are usually amongst the other cheeses at the cheese counter or cheese section. If you cannot find them by sight just ask for a help and you might even get a free sample or two. Remember you can buy feta made from sheep milk- delicious!
Some grocery stores are carrying goat's milk in a carton side by side with dairy milk. It has alot more protein than cows milk, although it is a bit more expensive.
Let us know what you find?

Thanks Amanda! This is great information. Do you know where I can find sheep and/or goat milk? They don't carry it in a lot of grocery stores.
