If you are going through Hell, keep going--Winston Churchill

Hey there,

Ok, so life is pretty tough these days, huh? We are all feeling the pain. And I am not talking about Leg Day here. The flippin economic storm out there is thick. Nobody is immune.

So, tell me. How is this affecting your commitment to taking good care of yourself?

I have spoken to a lot of Kinetix Community members recently about this. For a lot of us, we are turning towards the Free Targets maybe a little more often. Some of us are missing workouts. Of course you are!

Self comfort and self care seem so similar. Why beat yourself up with the Bowflex weights when it seems Fate is whaling on you bigtime, already?

Well, Coach Danielle here wants to give you a virtual hug and some thoughts.

(First of all, do you like the Churchill quote? That was from Greg's FB page this morning. Such the right thing to shout out to everyone: If you are going through Hell...keep going!!!!!)

My thoughts are this. Rather than thinking of the 30 minute workout of the day, and the 6 times eating 40-40 -20 as more opression for your already squeezed-tight life, why not think of the lifestyle as a resource?

The Kinetix lifestyle isn't just another problem for you to confront in an already tough day, is it?
Is it?

Why not consider kinetix a RESOURCE with which you can tackle the big stress that is hurling towards you on a daily basis? You are no stronger and better prepared to tackle the tough stuff than when you are well-nourished, energetic, and centered.

Don't you feel so good after busting out 6 sets and a shower, in under 30 minutes?
Don't you love how 65% cardio for 30 minutes makes you feel refreshed, reinvigorated, and happier?

Remember the immortal words of Elle on Legally Blonde: "Exercise causes endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands. Right?"

Ok, maybe that was glib. But you might also consider what my wise and beautiful friend Coach Heather said once at an event at Regence Seattle. She was talking about how she was going through gigantic personal stress in her personal life. She was literally falling to pieces. And she said that the only thing she had control over was how she took care of herself. She said that as she got physically stronger, she could feel herself getting stronger inside, too. Did she let herself off the hook because life was handing her all kinds of lemons?

No. She got up and got moving! She showed up, no matter how icky she felt and kicked some @ss.
LOVE it. My hero!!!!!!!!

Please, Team.

Think about it. Unless you are in In-Person Coaching (and even if you are), you are the only one who can do this for you.

But that is the good news!

YOU HAVE CONTROL OVER THIS.

Fitness is the #1 thing that you know you are going to get the payoff, if you show up and do it.

You cannot say that about anything else in life! Not relationships....not career success....not childrearing....sorry, but it is true. All these things, although tremendous blessings, can also be HELL.

The only thing you really can count on is you. And the shot at getting into and staying in the best shape of your life!!!!!

NOW go! Hit the weights! It's Monday! Are you up to 40# yet on your 5's?????

(only a kinetix community member would get that...)

:)Be Well!

Great message! Rather than seeing our workouts and nutrition as opressive, I do see them as a chance to take control. That is so empowering!!

Danielle... you have such an intuitive way about you, in that you seek it and THEN SAY what needs to be said. You rock. SUCH great stuff here: Churchill & Elle quotes alongside the "pain is inevitable, suffering is not."... I'll just add my 5 cents also.

Generally speaking, the days that I do (verses don't) want to work out are usually 50/50. Yup. I said it. There have been numerous times (weeks on end, but sometimes many months) in my life where the stress and utter pits of life have drug me to depths of complete despair. It is in those dark & scary times that I thank God for my ability (*I* have two awesomely working legs & arms!!) to go to the gym, get on my bike, get to yoga, go to my nearest park or track & run or walk, etc. AND I GO. But only because of how I know I'll feel during, afterwards or the day after. My lungs feel clean, my mind has been de-cluttered, & sometimes I even end up busting out & crying or laughing (see Kara :D) during my work out!!! Ahhh... It all helps me process & get through those trying times. Basically, I truly don't know what I'd do without my workouts ESPECIALLY in the midst of the rough & tumbleness of life.

It is too funny that i read this today. I have been struggling with migraines this past month, almost constantly. So, of course, I haven't felt like exercising, and haven't been eating like I should once I got home. As a result I have been feeling even crappier! I just didn't realize where the cause REALLY lay. Last night was the first time in three weeks i felt halfway decent and the first thing I did was work-out! Is that crazy or what?! And guess what?! I feel 10 times better today! I still have the headache but I feel 10 pounds lighter! Just getting the water flowing and the blood pumping again. It is quite amazing! I am afraid to step on that scale and find out how much damage I have done! Or should I say how much good was undone??!!

it is so true. things have been tough for everyone lately, but it is nice to have one thing you can control. working out is a great escape and a healthy one at that! and anyway, not to point out the obvious but it is far more economical to go grocery shopping and prepare all of your K meals for the week than it is to hit up some fast food everyday!!!!

"Exercises causes endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands. Right?"
OMG!!! That movie is fullof awesome quotes.. "oh you go here..? Like it's HARD? " LOL!
Great Blog Danielle ! I knew something had changed when a time of stress came and I wanted to... actually it was more like HAD TO go workout to "get it out" . Sometimes its not even about the pay off on your health , its about the time to BREATHE, and suck in the good part and exhale the bad.. Shower off the rest and you are a new woman!
I like the quote ..
"pain is inevitable , suffering is optional"
I can't wait to hear what people say, I know some pretty disheartened people right about now.
