I haven't yet shared my motivation for starting and following through on the Kinetix program and since today is National Wear Red Day - aimed at raising awareness of women and heart disease - it seemed like a good day to share.
I don’t fit the profile for a person with heart disease. I’m a 38 year old woman, I’m not overweight, and I don’t smoke. All good reasons to believe I wouldn’t be at risk for heart disease. However, what I do have is a family history of heart disease and high cholesterol.
On June 30, 2000 when I was just 30 years old, I had a heart attack and went into full cardiac arrest. It turned out that one of my arteries was completely blocked and it took angioplasty and a stent to open it back up. About 10% of my heart muscle "died" as a result of the heart attack and it took months of hard exercise to reverse the damage.
Over the years, I've slacked off on the exercise and increased my medications. Lately I've been having little pangs in my chest (no worries - it's nothing serious) and they've been a good reminder to me that I HAVE to incorporate exercise into my every day life - if I want to live a long life. So here I am, along with a great group of motivated folks, on my way back to good heart health.
Thanks Regence and thanks Kinetix for bringing this program into my life!
