THE SECRETS TO WINNING THE KINETIX CHALLENGE FROM THE KINETIX FOUNDER

How would you like to make 2008 the year you WIN the Kinetix Challenge? The year you finally get in great shape. The year you drop that stubborn body fat and sculpt those legs, abs and arms. The year your friends, family and co-workers can’t stop talking about how great you look. The year you push past all the excuses and just embrace your potential - once and for all.

Does that sound like something you’re interested in?

If you answered “yes” then please keep reading. I’m about to share some of the secrets that will pretty much guarantee your spot as a Kinetix Challenge Finalist, and give you the best shot at becoming a Kinetix Challenge Champion.

As you may know, over the past decade, I’ve made a living coaching people to get in great shape. It’s been the focus of virtually everything I’ve done. I’ve coached moms, marines, pro athletes, celebrities, executives, models and grandparents to their best bodies. I’ve listened, learned, adapted my methods, tracked results relentlessly and listened a whole lot more.

And, do you know what I’ve learned? I’ve learned that a pro-athlete, a mom and a Starbucks barista all do the exact same things in order to be successful. I’ve learned there are patterns to every person’s journey. The people who reach their potential do the exact same things. The people who don’t reach their potential do the exact same things too (they just to the wrong things)!

So, in order to help you win the Kinetix Challenge, I thought I’d share three secrets I see in virtually every single Kinetix Challenge Champion. When you start practicing these three secrets, you’ll start making progress at an accelerated rate. And, you’ll put yourself in a great position to be the next Kinetix Champion.

Secret #1 - Change Happens in an Instant
This is quite possibly the most powerful secret of all. It’s a part of every champion’s journey. At the root of it, it speaks to a shift in mindset that is under your control. A decision to change that you either will or won’t make. And, if you make it, you’ll reach your goal. If you don’t, you probably won’t.

I’ve never met anyone who’s achieved a level of greatness in their lives who did so accidentally. Reaching a meaningful goal must be done with a purpose. It must be done with a conviction that you can do it. And, trust me when I say this, you can do it.

If you’re one of the many people who has struggled with your health, weight or body image, it’s time for you to make a change. It’s time for you to decide right here, right now that over the next 8-weeks you will exercise six days a week and eat healthy, balanced foods six times a day. Do this and you will change.

But realize the most important part of your change will happen before you even get started. The most important part of changing will happen the moment you commit to yourself to making the change. Not a half-hearted commitment. A champion’s commitment.

Something like this will do: “Today I make the decision that 8-weeks from now I will be living in a new, healthier body full of energy and enthusiasm. I realize that life can be unpredictable and stressful. I also realize that what I eat and whether I exercise is completely under my control. I am responsible for my well being. As of this moment I have changed my mindset to make eating healthy and daily exercise a part of who I am.”

Secret #2 - Willpower is NOT a Strategy
Over the years I’ve met many, many people who are in a constant state of “battle of my willpower”. Their roller coaster goes something like this; two weeks of starvation, long exhausting exercise sessions, painful emotions of deprivation and usually a drop of five to ten pounds on the scale. Followed by; two weeks of binge eating, lazy exercise sessions (if any exercise at all), painful emotions of guilt and disappointment and usually a gain of ten to fifteen pounds.

And, every time their clothing goes up a size, their self-esteem goes down another level. This is one of the worst and most painful struggles - one I hope to help you avoid at all costs!

Kinetix Challenge Champions never use willpower as their strategy! For the most part, they use the Kinetix Journal as their strategic tool. Yes, you read that right - a journal.

Nothing beats a journal for tracking progress and troubleshooting. Your journal will make sure you never have to rely on willpower. Your journal will show you the days you absolutely did not feel hungry. Your journal will make sure you push yourself a little harder in the gym each week.

In short, 8-weeks of journaling will give you (and your Kinetix Coach) all the information you’ll ever need to get and stay in great shape. ‘Nuff said.

Secret #3 - Focus on What You Get, Not What You Give Up
A friend of mine once remarked, “Nothing tastes as good as being in the best shape of your life feels.” By the way, this is a guy who dropped over 50-pounds of fat and completely re-built his life. He totally got Secret #3.

One of the strategies I use with my clients to teach them about Secret #3 is to have them write down two lists for me. The first list is things they have to give up to get in great shape. The second list is things they will gain when they’re finally in great shape.

Typically, the first list reads something like this: I will have to give up cookies, ice cream, sleeping in, etc, etc, etc. (Of course, anyone who knows Kinetix knows you don’t have to give up any of these things - they’re called Free Targets!). Anyway, the second list usually reads something like this: I will gain, self respect, new wardrobe, increased energy, more time with my kids, stronger relationships, more love from my family, longer life, etc.

Now, when we put these lists side by side it’s really quite funny. On the “give up” side we have chocolate cookie and on the “gain” side we have more love from my family. Hmmmm, tough call. Is that chocolate cookie really worth it? I didn’t think so!

The point is, to make this lifestyle stick you better start focusing on all the things you’re going to gain from it. Visualize your life 8-weeks from now. Make it real. Enjoy the journey!

There you have them, three secrets to help you get the most out of your Kinetix Challenge. Remember, this is your life. It’s not a dress rehearsal. If you want to make a change - make a change. I have a feeling this is your year!

Your friend,
Jamie

Such a great post, glad I found it! I'm going to share it at work. It really is all a matter of being present. Showing up. And it really does happen in an instant, because that instant is NOW, all there ever is.

Jamie, I've come back and read this blog several times now and whenever I'm in need of a little encouragement this really lifts my spirits. I was that #2 battle-of-willpower person for a long time. No more! One of the biggest things for me has been making that statement that, "As of this moment I have changed my mindset to make eating healthy and daily exercise a part of who I am." I am no longer content to be "a little heavy" because that's how the majority of my family live. I want better for myself and I have made the choice to change my life!
Thanks for being suck an encourager and motivator for all of us Kinetix-ers.

A Champion's commitment, indeed! I agree.
It's the ability for one to stay out of their own way, en route to their full potential.
Thank you for bringing together the tools, the vision, and the passion!
Week one of the challenge is in the bag!
(Thank you also for Turtle Power Bars!)

Secret #1 Resonates well with me. Success is not accidental. The most successful people that I know make it success happen...they recongnize and capitalize on opportunity. At the end of the day we (ourself) are responsible for where we are. Moreover, if we don't like it where we are we are the only ones who will make success happen. The world is full of abundance...we choose whether or not we want to capitalize on abundance. I am giving you a virtual "knuckles". GB

I've gained the K-strategies for my ground work to build on and have gotten so much :), loven it!!! Only giving up bad habits and feeling bad all the time. Gained strength, focus, friends, health, energy, fitness, new experiences, etc, etc.... Hugs....Sallie

Secret number #3 was what really struck me as the most empowering part of your message. The idea to make two lists, one of things I would have to give up and one of things I would gain. I guess it never occurred to me to do something like this, and now that I have it's so obvious which choice I should make. I've applied this same concept to other goals that I want to accomplish and it's amazing just how effective and powerful this technique can be. Thank you for sharing this Jamie and thank you for continuing to inspire me to keep reaching for my goals!
