In my last blog I shared my experiences with the Kinetix Challenge and the role it played in not only changing my physique but how it positively impacted many other areas of my life. This week our Spring 2008 Kinetix Challenge Men's and Women's Champions Charlie Bailey and Erin Barrett are going to share with you 12 reasons to take the Kinetix Challenge.

12 Reasons to Take the Kinetix Challenge

Erin Barrett, Spring 2008 Women's Champ.....

1. During the process, you develop a true sense of self discovery and awareness. You realize what your body and mind is fully capable of and that leads to really focusing on you (how is my body feeling? What do I need? How will this choice impact my goals, and is it worth it to me?)

2. A renewed sense of energy comes along. You start to take on new challenges all the time and you don't bat an eye at it. That 5k you thought about running now does not look as hard (and it even sounds fun!), or the Triathlon you've been thinking about doing is now within reach. You start to think about doing things you never thought you would do and this whole "can-do" attitude takes over!

3. You become a participant and leave that bystander mentality behind. Instead of being on the sidelines, you are in the game. I am far more aware of what's going on around me and I am engaged in life.

4. You learn how to eat. I focused for eight weeks on how and what to eat and my body and mind loved me for it. Now, when I forget to eat, I don't make time or I am not prepared (life happens!); my body screams at me and I know what I need to do to make it happy again! The recipes and tools online were super helpful for me to do meal planning and really helped me eat the types of foods I already liked, so it wasn't a painful "dieting" process.

5. It’s fun. You get to meet new people who are working towards the same common goal.... being healthy! You have the opportunity to learn and share with others. There is a true sense of support from those out there going through the same journey and that whole warm, squishy "I feel loved" feeling is there because people really do care about you. It’s also really fun to see people's competitive side come out.

6. It’s an opportunity to share a healthy lifestyle with our friends and family (assuming you have one or both!).

7. It’s an opportunity to share meal planning, cooking, etc., with those you spend time with both at work and outside of work. It’s a chance to really make it a lifestyle.

8. It’s an opportunity to coach/mentor someone else, to share what you’ve learned.

9. It’s an opportunity to share something positive with those around us. The best thing about any positive change we make in our own lives is that we can give it back to others.

10. It’s an opportunity to effect real, noticeable changes. It is surprising how much change can be made in as little as eight weeks. This is a great occasion to get quantifiable results.

11. The prizes are awesome!

12. With your new physique, you’ll become a living legend. You’ll be sought out by the rich and famous. You’ll meet millionaires, supermodels, and international jet-setters.

I agree, if you plan breakfast, make a sandwich for lunch, and use the meal builder tool for dinner . All that's left is to fill in the gaps with K-Balanced snacks.Of which of course I like Turtle Bars and Crisps.( K2 and easy!)

Good advice Charlie. It's definitely a learning process. Also Laura, a K-4 turkey sandwich is always good in a crunch. Plan some meals and have other easy to put together things around for times when you just can't make it happen. I cook two dinners a week (i.e. lasagna and thai salmon burgers) that have at least 4 servings each. I alternate between the two for the week throw in one turkey sandwich and a free target on the weekend and voila! I only cooked twice all week. The next week, I choose two more dinner recipes.

You hit it on the head Laura... Planning. Start out with planning one meal per week. Say breakfast. At the start of the week plan out what you are going to have for breakfast each day. Then shop accordingly so you are ready to execute your plan. Then after you've got that down, add lunch... and so on. It's definitely an adjustment, but it pays big dividends in the end. Also, don't forget, you're not going to be perfect. But keep pressing on to the goal.

My ONLY concern is the meal planning. I stink at meal planning and I'm quite busy. Where's the advice for that?

Being one of the winners in the 2007 Kinetix Challenge, my advice is "Don't be afraid of failing, be afraid of never trying". Go for it!!!
