A great burger can be made from just about anything, but when made from fresh ground turkey or chicken breast it becomes a blank canvas for a variety of global flavors.

To help get you started on your masterpiece burger, I’ve come up with 10 quick and delicious mix-ins that don’t require a lot of measuring or mess. Now I’m not saying I’m a burger expert or that this is the ULTIMATE BURGER; these are just some easy ideas to spice up the somewhat pedestrian turkey burger.

First, the basic recipe for six K4 burgers:
• 1 pound 98% fat free ground turkey breast (or ground chicken breast)
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 6 multi-grain hamburger buns
• 1 teaspoon of butter or olive oil on each bun before toasting

Next, add any of the combinations below - no specific amount is required, just mix-in whatever amount sounds good to you. Fire up the grill and cook burgers until cooked through (about 165°), and let rest for a few minutes before serving.

1. Chopped frozen spinach (squeeze dry), garlic, lemon juice and red pepper flakes
2. Chili powder, ground cumin; top burger with fresh salsa and cilantro leaves
3. Chopped basil, mint, cilantro, lime juice, minced jalapeño; top with sliced cucumbers and pickled ginger
4. Old Bay seasoning or Cajun spices, diced bell peppers; top with yellow mustard
5. Diced onion, celery, grated lemon peel, tarragon
6. Green onions, bottled chili sauce; top with arugula
7. Curry powder, cilantro, green onion, minced ginger; top with grilled zucchini or peppers
8. Minced garlic, diced onion, Italian seasoning; top with sliced tomatoes drizzled with balsamic vinegar
9. Rosemary and thyme; top with sautéed mushrooms and onions
10. Garlic, green onions, Worcestershire sauce, capers

Tip: If you’re unsure how much seasoning to add at first, start gradually and cook a small portion in a pan before adding more.

And be sure to check our website for more grilled summer suppers.

Buon Appetito!

I love burgers! (My family is a huge red-meat family; I'm chicken, fish and veggies) They will love these! I BBQ'd last night, but I could heat up the grill again! Thank you Hollyce!

This is awesome. My recipe uses brown mustard, garlic powder, low-fat cheese, tabasco, onion powder, parsley and sea salt. I also add a "secret" ingredient that I will share with my Kinetix friends -- a touch of liquid smoke (a little goes a long way).

Try it -- you'll love it, I guarantee!
