As some of you may know, the Kinetix team decided to hold an internal Challenge coinciding with the Starbucks Challenge. We wanted to experience the same things the partners were going through to better relate with them & provide the best support possible. My outcome? After changing clothing sizes and feeling great, the scale reported that I only lost 0.7 pounds—but the scale never tells the whole story. It can’t track the difference between lean muscle and body fat. You can look better and feel better, even if the scale says your weight hasn’t budged.
I took my BCA every few weeks to track my progress and record it on the Sunday Progress Report page in my journal. My weight was staying constant, but I was feeling and looking leaner. The weeks past, my weight held fast, yet I was swimming in t-shirts that are normally snug. How could this be happening?
My BCA was the only way to truly track my progress: I was losing body fat and gaining lean muscle tissue. This made my overall bodyweight the same however my percent body fat was much lower. Over the 8 week period I only lost .7lbs, but I also lost 9.7lbs of body fat and gained 9lbs of lean muscle tissue.
I am a living example of why it is more important to focus on changes in percent body fat and not overall bodyweight. The simple and consistent Kinetix nutrition and exercise principles can literally transform your body, helping you to lose body fat and gain lean muscle tissue. We all know why losing body fat is desirable so let’s talk about the importance of adding additional lean muscle tissue to your body.
When I speak with most people about muscle they think of a hulking bodybuilder which understandably scares many people. As a Coach one of the most common concerns I hear from clients is, “I don’t want to get big and bulky muscles from lifting weights”. Unfortunately this is a myth that simply will not go away. The fact is that weight training that is complimented with balanced nutrition and regular cardio will allow you to build a lean, toned physique while increasing your metabolism.
