About Me:
I have a degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from the University of Montana and a certification from the American College of Sports Medicine as well as a background in health behavior change and exercise program development for high-risk populations. Before my position as a Coach at Kinetix, I worked a personal trainer in the Seattle area as well as in Missoula, MT. I love to do anything outdoors...hiking, biking, fishing and camping. My friends, family and dogs are usually close behind :) I love to go listen to music around Seattle, take a salsa dance lesson, or throw on my Seahawk jersey and watch some football with friends.
I'm looking forward to a half-marathon and triathalon filled 2009!! Oh, and, of course staying kinetical!
I just love being a part of the Kinetix community and hearing everyone's stories. I would love to hear about your experiences and answer any questions or provide support.

Beat those boredom blues

Have you ever found yourself counting the minutes until your workout is over? Or lately with all the nice weather, have you had a hard time concentrating while inside the gym? Sometimes we've got to spice up our workouts a bit to stay motivated and engaged.

Here are a few tips to re-engage your mind and body:

1. Remember why you're there. If you catch yourself checking your watch frequently or trying to hurry to finish a workout, remind yourself why you're there. "I am here because I ch… Continue

Our society's unhealthy obsession with Instant gratification

This blog was actually an email I sent out to all my classes today, however I thought I'd share it with the entire community as it is something that I have lately been spending a lot of time thinking about.

Today’s email is inspired by a horoscope—okay I know that sounds like it will be full of bologna, but it brought an interesting topic to the forefront of my mind. Here it is:

Taking care of a money matter today might not be enough to put your
financial concerns to rest, but it is a step

Hiking--more than just exercise!

Einstein said of nature, "Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better."

Most of us believe in the power of The Gym by now. We find solace in the Bowflex weights as they are always there for us, waiting patiently for hands to grab hold of them on Monday, then standby while we treadmill or elliptical on Tuesday. Ah yes, the gym is good, the gym is predictable and the gym is our friend.
But what happens when life throws inevitable chaos and stress our way? What can… Continue

Why did you accept the challenge?

I accepted the kinetix challenge because I had come face to face with a harsh reality. I was aging. Yes, its true. I know it’s hard to believe that, but I am in fact getting older each day and with that has come a slower metabolism—sigh. IT was an inevitability of life but it caught me off guard. I had always been the super-skinny as in wear two pairs of leggings so you could tell I had legs skinny. And with this super-skinny body it seemed I could eat ANYTHING and maintain it. I could eat deser… Continue

Hi Emily! Ok, I have to take back everything I was thinking about deadlifts, because you're right, they're totally killing my legs now : ). Thanks again for helping us while Heather was out!

Hey there! Yes, I had great time hiking with you last Saturday. It was so much fun. Salzburg is still limping and we think she may start with some kind of arthritis. We need to take her to vet for more test. Do you have any plan for next hike coming up this summer?

Yes, I am looking forward to the experience and opportunity with the SBUX group. I will miss the Tactown group though. Thanks for the update on the carwash! I will get the details to you no later than tomorrow, so you can send it out! I'm trying to finish the details today! It's supposed to be around 80 degrees on Sunday, that should help! It should be close to where you're going hiking! Hope you have a great day! You're gonna do great with Regence Seattle!

This one actually isn't mine, she's my horse's sister, Vanity. I just crack up everytime I see it. I'd been chewing a carrot and she was trying to get at it. I'm going to try to be at the mixer today. Looking forward to meeting you!

Yah, he is awfully cute. We should plan a hike. Just did Twin falls yesterday and it was soooo crowded, oh well.
Hey, I am super excited about the new goings-on! I am totally here for you, to make sure that you are comfortable and geared up to rock it.
Cheers!
